As fleeting and reoccurring as they are ever-present and ephemeral, I believe that memory serves as an anchorage to reclaiming identity when living with mental anguish. The dual nature of memories, as whole or reassembled, is explored in this body of work. My desire in navigating the formation of new memories and reckoning with memories intentionally forgotten is aided by exploring emotionality through color and the tactile nature of creating and layering marks. Concepts such as tethers, dreamscapes, harmony, fragmentation, resurgence after loss, and embodied/disembodied emotions are created on the surface through intuitive painting, incorporation of photos and post process outline. In borrowing processes from fluid art and action painting, I relinquish control of how colors move on the surface and, in turn, how I give in to the immediacy of the moment.
