I use flower barrettes as the symbol of my experiences as a Black Grrrl, in and of my grrlhood through to my current experiences as a Black woman.

These patterns each use the icon of the flower barrette as its foundation and starting point. As I reflect on the 18 years of my Black Grrrlhood and beyond, the single barrette transforms to encompass my thoughts, mantras and experiences. These patterns are presented in non-chronological order here. The name of each pattern are captioned with my immediate thoughts/emotions/memories at the time of creation.
